I'm about to start my first hatch, and I'm not sure if I should invest in an automatic turner. I would only be able to turn the eggs twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening, or about every twelve hours. I'll be using the Brinsea Eco 20, if that makes a difference. I would rather not spend the extra money on an auto turner, but I would also like to successfully hatch these eggs and I don't want to take any cost shortcuts that would make hatching unlikely. So, how important is an auto turner, really?

Hmmmm....I don't have an auto turner but I am able to turn them more times per day. Ideally it is usually recommended to turn an odd number of times during the day in order that every other night the eggs be in a different position. It sounds like you work 12-hour shifts? If anything shorter than a 12-hour shift, I would recommend a schedule of at least 3x per day: when you get up, when you return from work, before bed. Even if the last two are close together, since every other night they would be in a different position, it would probably be okay.
