Only urate poop

Hey, give her fat, not fiber. Fiber is not needed at all. If you have some coconut oil, give her some of that in some soft eggs or something. Lard is also fine. Fat will solve the issue IF she's actually clogged up and it can't hurt this time of year anyway. Solves it for humans as well. I'm not sure it's what you think it is. I've never thought any of my birds were constipated.

You may want to read this, not to worry you. I see urate poop in old birds a lot, though.
Watery Urates Poop

If your chicken produces droppings that are very white and runny regularly (the urates is runny), this should be monitored closely as it can be an early indication of a kidney problem- more so common in older birds.
If you happen to come across an abnormal chicken poop, it is important to note whether it is an isolated incident, or one that is recurring. You should also check for other symptoms in your chickens that may signify illness or disease, such as: weight loss, loss of appetite, lethargy, sullen appearance or a drop in egg production. If these are established, appropriate further treatment should be undertaken.

I do think Eddie is constipated. The X-rays showed nothing alarming and the fiber did seem to help get things moving. I don’t know why it’s happening again though. So I can mix some coconut oil and scrambled eggs for her. Is there anything else ‘fatty’ that I can give her?

Could kidneys show up on an X-ray?

If you give her one stool softener gel cap, that will be plenty to get her poop going again. But it will be of the very runny kind until the softener moves through her system. You don't need to mix oil in her food. It would be overkill.

See how the poop looks tomorrow and you may want to do the psyllium or add coconut oil to food for a couple days. Just half a teaspoon per day or a teaspoon of oil.

Yeah, agreed, don't do both at once. Funny you posted today. Atlas had a very nasty runny poop that was mostly urates and green pieces. He's almost 9 years old and had a recent stroke or other neurological issue and was out for an hour. As I said, happens a lot in older birds anyway. No, I'm not doing anything special for him other than giving him an egg most mornings as he's not eating much in recovering from his hard molt--that also causes that type poop quite often, a heavy molt. And yours is pretty old, as I recall. I have never seen a constipated bird. After all, they eat grains for their daily food so that's full of fiber already.

thank you for your responses!

I am leaving and won’t be back until midnight tomorrow.

I gave her some coconut oil before I left but forgot about the dulcolax though. The good news is she had three normal poops before I left. One looked cecal. I took a picture of two of them and will attach the pictures. There were some seeds still in it but I was impressed after her horrible ones last night that the poops had structure.

Sorry to hear about Atlas. It seems he has quite a bit going on. Eddie is 9 years old. She also had an X-ray. I’ve been trying to figure out how to download them but haven’t gotten it to work yet. Anyways I found a vet who got X-rays of Eddie when she first got blocked up last week. The X-rays showed no blockage or anything of concern. She stuck her finger in Eddie’s vent and felt inflammation on the right side of Eddie’s vent floor. She assumed she needed fiber and the pysllium definitely seemed to help. If there’s no blockage would you assume it’s just old lady things because I never heard of constipation in chickens.

Yeah, I've never seen a constipated chicken in over 17 of having them so not sure why she was suggesting that. They eat grains, which, to me, are basically fiber anyway. Eddie is quite an old lady and her poop may change from one thing to another as she ages, probably day to day or week to week. Old age does all sort of weird stuff to us human ladies, too.

Well thankfully she did great when I was gone. Her poops are not 100% normal but she is pooping. I will get some pictures throughout the day.

And a surprise when I came home, Eddie is starting her molt! She always molts very hard and fast. I’ve never really done much in the past, maybe upped the scrambled eggs and mealworms they receive. What should I do for Eddie and Dev to help them through? (dev hasn’t started yet but when she does). I believe their feed is 19% protein.
