So, I am new at this obviously! I asked the local farm feed store what to feed my ducks they told me medicated starter that is what they fed their ducks they sold. Now I am realizing the mistake, I have 3 pekin, 2 runners and an unknown. I mixed them with my chickens which has worked out ok, Yes ducks are horribly messy and they definately hog the water though. I fed the medicated feed for 6-8 weeks then stopped and moved to reg feed. The ducks seem healthy but what can i give them to help correct the problem. Vitamins? or just stick with the feed? Any ideas to help me? Thank You

I wouldn't give them anything. Just stick to the regular unmedicated food, I'm sure they will be fine. Our feed store sells medicated feed to most duck owners, but I have him specially order unmedicated for me. He claims other duck owners don't have issues with med. feed. Maybe it doesn't effect all ducks, or it has to build up over a long period of time. I prefer to be safe than sorry and feed the unmed. kind, but I'm sure your slip up won't hurt yours. If it was going to it, most likely, would have already.

I think the problem stems from the ducks pigging out and they can OD on the medication, which can kill them. Now that they are getting regular feed, I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry. Just feed them non-medicated from now on. Some of the coccidiostats are safe for ducks. You didn't see any problems while they were on the feed, so no worries.

I would just stop giving the medicated feed. It can cause a thiamine deficiency, but I'm not 100% sure what to give to supplement. But if they don't appear injured, just get them on the correct food and consider yourself lucky.

Most medicated feed to day is ok for ducks. I feed it. My feed store mang. told me the warning about medicated feed was posted years ago. The medication used to day is differant. If other custners are using it, it must have the newer medication in it.
