Oops... #%$*^%%

So far I have one egg eater.
An EE, whose name escapes me at the moment, discovered a guinea was laying soft shelled eggs on the poop board at night. Even after the shells hardened up, if she finds an egg there, she will actively peck it til it breaks. 🙁
Fortunately, this behavior hasn't crossed over to the regular nested eggs.

I crack my thin shelled eggs right into the dish I feed wet mash in. No deliberate egg eaters here and every hen comes running when they hear me break one for them.
I have one hen who constantly lays thin shells so this egg gifting is 4-5 times a week.

I had a thin-shell layer in my in-town flock. She must have had other issues too because she just dropped dead one day.

Broken eggs in the nest were such a PAIN.

I suspect shell gland issues for her. She seems ok otherwise. She just hit 3 years old so  .

My birds, its like they know it's coming. anytime they have a soft shelled one, they lay it in the bottom poop shavings and not in the nesting box. Helpful to clean up IF they don't break it. If they do break it and it gets on... yesterdays meal too... we have a real mess then because then they are all over it, and 'it' gets all over.
