Arbor.. what is the color of the new color your working on ?? Comment on Peach .. I have been breeding Peach spaldings for years and some years with splits I dont get any peach from them. This year I got 1. Now with a Peach male that is a lot easier to get peach ,but I like to do this and see what happens, too get 3/4 peach takes a while. I agree that the peach, purple and cameo are a group of colors alike .. ( I call them the pastels,, yes I know ) Most... all of the new colors are mutations and not a man made color.There are some good ideas here that can help the UPA, just need to be worked on. I purchased the inside center left page of the UPA breeders directory in the year 2011 and there is a Violete male with full train ( not a fan ) . I sat a long time just to get this one out of 50 or so photos. At that time there was only ...one ...of these in the world with a full train. Keep fowarding info to Jay and help out and someday these things will get done.. connerhills

La Caille Ranch in Florida is writing a book on peacocks. i sent them a message about our thread asking them to put pictures of newly hatched, 3mo, 6mo, hen and adult cock photos in it. I wish I had some of these special color pea's but I don't. I recommended that they go on to byc and see what people want in the book.

As of yet, no name to the colour (which is confirmed to be a combination of two currently accepted colours through a series of breedings) as we have not produced a male yet (hoping that breeding the 1st hen back to her father will produce a male, assuming she even lays for me next season - I don't have very good luck with 2 yr old birds of either sex). I think its important to see a male in full train before a name is given to a new bird. The sex-linked characteristics of peach allow for tough odds when working with splits. Even if you hatch every egg, it may take years to get what you want. when your working with 1:16 or 1:32 odds, you get lucky, or you don't. It does take a while to get the perfect photo, and many males I have owned will not even fan when I'm around, so it'll be difficult to get one for me. I don't know of the photo of the violete male (as I am not yet a UPA member), but if it is one of the ones on Leggs site, its pretty good. Since you are the originator of the colour, can we have the story as to how it came about? I've heard nothing so far, and am very curious.
Importing peafowl into canada is done by only a handfull of people, mainly due to the limited population and those interested in seriously getting involved. I imagine unless someone offers me a lot of $ for some taupe, I won't be bringing any in, and neither will my associates. Being nationally isolated, this will aide me in determining possibilities in creating genetic colour combinations. I have a pair of birds that carry both opal and purple genetically (both colours were mentioned as possible donors, but I would have thought the eye in the male's train would be more defined and dark) and hope to hatch offspring in the next couple years. Time will tell, and its all just an experiment, if I had more room, I would have produced more than 10 different pairs of offspring carrying double colour combinations - too bad the F1 generation all look like the wild type (or BS).

For my own use, the info on the husbandry and care of peafowl is best found on a site like this or the UPA. I see the need more for a photo directory with pictures of "Standards" for each colour.
