Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Wet and cold here this morning but it's supposed to clear up later this afternoon. I got the garden rototilled on Sunday and the chickens only have one more week to enjoy it. I intend to plant everything that starts from seed and wait another week before getting tomato and pepper plants. Even with this late May planting I still have to be concerned about frost.

I think tomorrow I will put another 3 dozen eggs in the incubator so that I will have two day old chicks to take to our Chickenstock next month. I wasn't very happy with this last hatch. Less than 50% hatched but in all fairness many of the eggs were close to three weeks old at set. They are still in the hatcher, it's day 22, but I don't think anymore are going to hatch. After I get home this afternoon I'll take them out, check the dates on the eggs, and open them to see what happened.

Nope! Harlan has obviously sent Spring this way too, it is currently 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and hardly a breath of wind. Better make the most of it, this is as good as it gets.

I've just been to the nearest town to get chicken food (7 miles away) and between going there and back I nearly had 3 accidents. I think everyone is out to get me today. One pulled out from a junction when I was getting close, one indicated left then turned right just in front of me and another had stopped in the road just past a blind corner. I'm pretty sure my car is a big red SUV - those darn Kingons must have fitted a cloaking device to it last night.

I think I will stay home for the rest of the day.

Thistle, maybe they were just trying to find a way to meet you.

I read the second incident and thought what's the big deal and then I remembered that you folks drive on the wrong side of the road.

Long day today. I didn't leave the job site until after 8pm. I removed over 200' of handrail and balusters from a deck that we are rebuilding and then I had to stay because I had a company shot blasting the garage floor, filling all the cracks, and then refinishing with an epoxy that bonds with the concrete creating a surface that is impervious to just about everything. They had traveled over 100 miles to get to our job and wanted to finish today. The only problem was they lost a wheel bearing on their trailer on the way here so it was almost noon before they arrive.

Morning! Another beautiful day here today, yesterday was fabulous. It was sooo nice to be outside in a t-shirt for a change - I am definitely a sun-baby.

I am headed into town today to send off our passport applications for our hols this summer. Can't wait! Kids are super-excited too, it will be their first time abroad.

I'm glad you've finally gotten some decent weather. Ours is going to be quite pleasant for a change and I'm certainly looking forward to it. I bet the kids are excited about the upcoming trip. I remember with the boys, how excited they would get before we left to go on vacation. Always asking "how much longer" and then when we would be headed for our destination it would change to "are we there yet".

The hatch was terrible I wound up with 17 out of 42, although it fairness some of the eggs were getting quite old. The tally was 10 vorwerk, 4 blue orpingtons, and 3 spangled hamburgs. I think I'll put 2 dozen more in the incubator today and try again. I'll try and get some pictures later this afternoon after it warms up. Yesterday was cold and rainy and I didn't even leave the job site until after 8pm.

I swear......2 vehicles running one day and 2 vehicles broke down the next

I have to go and rent a car just to get to work, then start looking for a permenant solution.
The truck needs a new/rebuilt engine, that will take a little time and $$, and the transmission is out in the explorer....probably not worth the $$ to fix! So, I am in search of at least one running vehicle

On the bright side....It is another gorgeous day, however a bit windy, and I have the day off to get my house cleaned!

Sam...good luck with the next batch of eggs
