Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Morning Opa and friends,

Sam, my heart aches for you guys, especially Granny. Connie was her own brand of special. Give Granny a big hug for me, okay?

It is true that the weather has drawn many of us away, even though we've had 3 days of rain and storms there's still plenty that can be done. Takes me 3 times as long to do things with this dad-blamed hip, but I do tend to be more thorough these days!

I have fallen in love with the gas powered weedeater and now wield it wildly anywhere the jungle gets too lush. Great fun, and I am trying not to think of the enlarging carbon footprint I am making. It's easy, I'm a heck of a lot busier watching for snakes! Haven't seen any for a few days, but I've been inside more.

Did I tell ya'll that I was sitting on the front porch one afternoon, just under the edge of the roof and a 4' plus rat snake fell off the roof? Landed in the aspidistra about 2' in front of me!

Ok, the wind has really ticked me off.....

100mph straight line winds, picked the coop up and flipped it about 3 or 4 times. If you look at the pick, it was standing by the compost pile on the otherside!

Trying to get in .....

Checking it out....

The luckiest chickens in Montana.....they all made and still layed some eggs! As seen through a crack in the side of the coop!

The chicken were moved to thier temperary home in the barn. I managed to get the nesting boxes back together....so they do have something to lay in!

The calm after the storm!

Wow that was some wind you had Laura. I glad none of you birds were hurt. People worry about tornadoes not realizing that straight line winds can often cause some incredible damage. Just last week straight line winds totally demolished 3 businesses in my youngest son's town.

Good grief Laura, I think I would be a little more than ticked off! Glad everyone is OK though.

Sam, so sorry to hear about poor Connie. Tell Granny I am thinking of her.

Good morning all, sitting here waiting for my neighbor so we can go fishing. I think we are getting a late start since we are going to be fishing in Lake Erie and that is 75 miles away. He and one of his friends have be going the last few days and have been getting limit catches of walleye pike. Hopefully we will today as well.

Granny has handled her dog's demise much better than I thought. I'm sure that everyone kind wishes have helped immeasureably. Thanks to all of you.

Yesterday turned out to be a wonderful and relaxing day. My neighbor's friend turned out to be a professional walleye fisherman and last year was the top Michigan fisherman in the FLW Walleye tournament and his boat was incredible. It was amazingly exhilerating to charge across Lake Erie at 60 mph. Not only was the boat nice he had enough equipment, rods, reels and lures to open a tackle store. His knowledge allowed us to catch fish when many others weren't catching anything. When we got to the boat launch and fish cleaning station we discovered most boats had caught 4 or 5 fish while we had taken 14. The fish were the perfect eating size 3 - 5 pounds and Hope and Granny both enjoyed the first of several meals we will have from our catch.

While I have no fish that got away story I did see something rather sad. A large sturgeon of about 5' was floating dead after being hit by a boat. It's sad when you think how few there are, that it takes twenty years to grow to that size, and that it could have lived to over 100 years.

Good afternoon everyone. It is a beautiful Memorial Day weekend here. Hope everyone is enjoying their's and that everyone gets a chance to thank a veteran for their service.
My mom is back in the hospital, she finally had her last chemo, but now she can't breathe properly. She is on oxygen and her pulse ox level went way down. It turns out that the chemo got into her lungs, and now she has to wait until it works it's way out. IT should take a couple of weeks to get better. I just pray that that is all it is, and not something worse. It takes doctors so long to find the problem, and then they end up finding out that they are wrong.
