One of my employees was sharing some blackberries from his lunch with us today and I couldn't believe how large they were. Turns out that they are growing wild in the woods behind his folks house. When we finished work he told be if I want berries his folks said take all I want. I couldn't believe how many berries are there. They just started growing in their woods a couple of years ago and they are everywhere. They are a seedless variety and the canes were 8-12'. In many places they are so thick that they look like grape clusters. I didn't even have to bend over to pick and in many places I was reaching overhead to pluck the choicest berries. Most of the ones I picked are as large as my thumb. I picked for 1 1/2 hours and got 2 gallons of berries. My Dad would have thought he was in heaven if he had ever found a berry patch like this one. Lots and lots of large berries and no snakes, you don't get much better pickin' than that.

Sounds wonderful. What are you going to do with them all? Jam? Pies?

I found a new walk to take the dogs to today and there were wild raspberries growing everywhere. They were the sweetest raspberries I have ever tasted.

I made one batch of jam and the rest I have placed in a single layer on cookie sheets and placed in the freezer. After they are frozen I'll bag them and save for making blackberry cobbler. No calories is that.........................yeah right!

I'll probably go back tomorrow and pick about 5 gallons for David to use for making blackberry wine.

Why oh why can't they be easier?!!? English is the easiest subject in the world until it comes to these stupid wastes of lead!

After looking at them some more, I realize I was overreacting, and while they are not the easiest things in the world, they are quite simple once you see what questions to ask. And, of course, not miss the simple 'ly' ones.
