Hi cindilooyoohoo, where ya been gal?

Insiderart, I'm sorry about the Welsummer hen, that sad. Hope you can get some more. I'm in the market for guineas now, because the ticks are making an appearance again. But someday, I hope to put put Wynette's avvie to shame.

The ducks got to go hang out in the great outdoors today - they were terrified of the water pans.

(for no other reason than I think the world of you)

I've got everything ready for the chicks that are due to arrive tomorrow, I've started saving eggs for the incubator, and I just posted on the Michigan thread that I will take some of aguila pennas lavender ameraucana bantam. So the madness begins.

Tonight I carved for a while on one of the emu eggs. Carving one is sure an exercise in patience. I'm using a high speed dental drill and while it is the tool of choice, it could also be the tool of disaster. A delicate touch is required. Apply to much pressure and the bit that is revolving at 400,000 rpms will plunge through and ruin the piece instantly. Wish me luck.

Today I was leveling the ground inside my two runs. Several places along the fence were starting to look as thou the birds were trying to dig their way to freedom. Also there were several moon craters that looked as to chinese chickens might come out of them. I leveled and scraped and got everything looking a little more presentable. I did notice that the earth I was moving was extremely dark and smelled like ............... I think that next week I will remove all the dirt down at least four inches and replace it with clean sand. The soil I remove will go into the garden to be rototilled under. It should add substantially to the quality of the garden soil.

This morning I took Granny for her eye appointment and on the way home stopped and picked up three 55 gallon black plastic drums with screw on lids. I intend to build 3 tumbler style composters. With three I should be able to produce a substantial amount of compost for the garden. I will have to start sweeping the lawn to gather the grass clippings to offset the chicken manure that goes into the mix. I seem to be constantly adding more jobs to my summer work load.

Ranchie, I don't. I missed a lot of school because of Dad's various appointments, so I don't. No summer break either. (Ok, maybe a short one.

I would be willing to bet that Sir Weighsalot is probably at the movies. There's a new movie out titled "How to train your dragon".

Yeah, I've heard about that one. It's supposed to be Dreamwork's comeback, but I highly doubt it. I mean, I was shocked that the poopfest of the new Alice in Wonderland movie was breaking records!

Cute ducklings, Ranchie! My chicks are going through their teenager phase.

Not sure I could stand to listen to the sound of the dental drill!!!!

Yeah, the sound is a little disconcerting. Plus you add in the smell of burning bone.

That does it, I would not be able to carve!

Guess it doesn't help either that I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and get a cavity filled!
