Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Pati, I loved Road to Zanzibar. Or is it Road to Zany?

I did the mail cleanout the other day, felt much better about it.

I have procrastinated as long as possible, the chickens are more settled and now it's time to tend to the wounded. The phone is unplugged, but I still hear the ringing.

In fact. it's ALL I hear!

Turner Classic movie channel is my favorite. I like most of the old movies. Black and white has always intrigued me. I love the old photos. The play on light is quite a trick to get just right. Alfred Hitchcock is a favorite. How he directs using black and white getting the message across.
The main reason is the family type movies. Not a cuss word in the whole movie! Can you dig that?

Talking about classic movies, one my favorites has always been the "Quiet Man" with John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond, Victor McLaglen

I am a huge John Wayne fan. My top favorites are The quite Man and The Cowboys. I do love all of his work!
I got to meet him one time in Mesa, Arizona, when he was filming a movie. He came into the coffee shop while I was working. I was trying to close. We knew John was here They drank lots of coffee and tipped very well. Any how, I am up on a stool, washing out a pie case, when he came in I didn't even look up. He just said " black coffee" I didn't even look in his direction. I got the coffee went to the booth set the coffee down looked at him and screamed JOHN WAYNE. He laughed and took my hand. I was shaking like a leaf. The Duke was as tall as me setting down in the booth. I got his autograph that night and served him many cups of coffee in the n ext few months. He was a very nice man, easy to talk with. and he always took time to be friendly. He had a Ranch here in Arizona. Another Friend I have, years later told me about being on his ranch and an old watering hole they hung out at. He had lots of personal times with The Duke. and some great stories.

I hate this time of year. Sometimes the allure of peeps is just too much to resist. I knew that they had them, yet I went into the store anyway. Up and down each aisle I went , trying to look away, yet somehow felt irresistably drawn. Just when I thought I might escape I heard a little kid exclaim "but Mom, I love them and they're cute". I was hooked. I found myself standing in front of them looking down, debating should I, shouldn't I.

I may appear to some as being gruff and callous but I do have a soft spot that doesn't seem to quite match my outward personna. I kept looking at their little yellow bodies and knew that I shouldn't, but temptation was exerting too great a pull on me. Walking out of the store, feeling a little morose over my lack of will power with ten of the little guys in hand and trying to explain to myself how I could be so weak.
Upon arriving home I kept looking at my purchase wondering why I couldn't have walked away, or at least only bought five. But then I decided that what was done was done and I might as well eat them. How a yellow sugar covered marshmallow can create such cravings in me is beyond understanding.

OK, Opa, I was having a bit of a bad day(discovering that my birds had feather mites and researching my options-and then trying to implement them by myself) when I read your post. I started out thinking "Oh, Opa got new chicks" and then upon reading further...I laughed so hard I had tears coming down my face. Thanks so much-I really needed that this afternoon.

But, Opa, does this mean you ate them before they got stale?
