Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

wow, I feel like I live in the tropics today. Warm, humid, windy, and rainy. I love it! We have had such a dry summer, this feels so nice. Back to 50's this weekend, so I guess I better not get used to it!

I'm hoping I won't have to take my next writing classes with these three girls I don't like.

to you, Ranchie. Here's hoping the storm doesn't hit!

Thanks for the good wishes, it worked! TD Nicole stayed east of us, we just had 2 days of storms but not the winds. The folks in NC got a much worse time of it, bless them.

It has cooled off considerably, so I am LOVING it! Perfect for getting out and working on the crate coop and run. Which will be housing my new hobby birds, bantam Cochins! After much internal debate and consultation with DH and chicken friends, I decided to find the best hatching eggs I can and start raising them! I won 6 Columbian bantam Cochin eggs on ebay yesterday, and have more I want to bid on tomorrow.

Hopefully I can set them all at the same time, since a staggered hatch in a styro-bator does not appeal to me!

Gallina, love the Baby Pumpkin!
PK, don't worry about classmates much. Once you are off to college with big classes there will be many more you don't care for, but just do your best and ignore the rest!
MamaG, you got the weather from here, sub-tropical. Enjoy it!
Notafarm, Your name reminds me of a post I saw last week of a rooster with a similar punned name - "maybe not".

Highlander, that's a 50% hatch, not bad at all for shipped eggs. Now it your turn to

for my hatch!

Haven't heard from Opa, so I assume all is well. Gee, I don't like it when he is out of pocket! Might have to see if I can reach him by phone......

Ranchie, Glad to hear you faired well and

with the bantam cochins! I think Sam will let us know what's going on when he gets to Missouri. His aunts and uncles may not have internet that he can use, I'm sure the boys in MO will! Enjoy your nice weather.

PK, Ditto what Ranchie said. One of the best skills you can develope is the one of getting along difficult people, even what you'd really like to do is

them. Keep doing what you do best, being a smart, capable young lady.

Highlander, We need updated pics of the chickies!

mamag, I'm glad you got some relief from the heat.

We are enjoying some beautiful autumn weather. Dry, with lows in the upper 40s and highs in the low 70s. The farmers are in the field harvesting the soybeans and corn so we'll be dealing with the Asian lady beetles shortly.

Later, Mary

Spoke to Opa today, all is well! They were getting ready to saddle the mules for a ride and Sam and his son Scott built some steps so Granny could ride in the hay wagon. Sounds pretty wonderful to me. Definitely that time of year for a hayride!

Holy cow! Temps got down into the upper 40s last night and I am freezing! Brrrrrrr

Not really prepared for cool weather yet, I always fuss about it but truth be told I LOVE the fact that it's not 95 with a humidity of the same.

Time to continue work on the crate coop, since I have eggs going in the incubator today.
Seven eggs I bought on ebay arrived yesterday, unfortunately I broke one. The seller had taped the beginning end of the bubble wrap to the egg and I didn't realize it until too late. Oops.

Can't believe it's almost Halloween, anyone have some fun plans?

IIF, happy hatching!

Wow, it's 40 degrees in North Carolina? It would make sense it's in the night, but that's still amazing...

For Halloween, I'm attempting to get the sewing machine out sooner rather than later so I can make a battle maid costume. Also, we're going Trick or Treating and to a Halloween party!

My Grandson will turn 5 just after Halloween. He's in pre-K this year so he has a bunch of new friends. We'll be having his b'day party the weekend before Halloween, with a Halloween theme. Nothing scary, they're just 4-5 year olds. I did get a game on the order of pin the tail on the donkey, only it's pin the tail on the black cat (which is all arched up). I'll be making Halloweeney cupcakes instead of a cake. Hot dogs wrapped in cresent roll dough to look like mummies, ham & cheese sandwiches with a pumpkin cut out of the top bread so the cheese shows through. Jello with gummy bugs in it. A pasta salad with Halloween pasta (cresent moons, cats, witches etc). Also thinking of making quesadillas, cutting the tortillas in the shape of pumpkins and cutting a jack o lantern face in the top tortilla.

Any other suggestions, I'm always open to suggestions? Of course with each 4-5 year old there will also be a parent. I hope he has a good turnout, but we're kind of out in the sticks, so we'll see. I'm working on designing the invitations now. It's a Granny-Nanny thing to plan parties and I love it. LOL. ** note to self... get printer ink.

edited because I haven't had enough coffee yet.

Welcome to Opa's Pelican49!

I saw these in a magazine today, I thought they were adorable. They would be great for a kids halloween party! Just piped meringue with little silver balls for the eyes.
