Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Opa, you could always become a snowbird and spend the winter in Ranchie's neck of the woods. I tell you the older I get the more I dislike winter. I remember being a kid and staying outside all day in the winter and coming home with soaking wet mittens and frozen feet. Now I take the kids outside to play, but I can't wait to get back into a nice warm house.

It's so annoying when you know it's supposed to be spring, yet it is still cold and snowy!

Even though the calendar says that it is spring, it never truly shows up around here until the middle of May. In the 64 years that I have lived in the state it never has followed the calendar so why should I expect this year to be any different?

Too bad some of you could have come and put your feet under my dinner table. Hope seared a venison roast in a cast iron dutch oven, caramelized some onions and tossed them in with the roast, and then let it cook for close to six hours. Even though it wasn't a piece of milk breath venison it still came out incredibly tender. Add some boiled redskin potatoes with butter, home canned green beans with bacon and onions, and you've got yourself a meal. Since none of you were here to help, it looks like we are going to be having it again.

I'm doing very well. Thank you for asking, P.K. I keep very busy with work and home. I, like Opa and so many others, am so ready for Spring to truly arrive....not just on the calendar but on the thermometer!! I have a broody hen sitting on 14 eggs that are due later this week so I hope the weather forecasters are right when they say if will be 50 F on Friday. It is suppose get down to 18 F tonight.

Last average frost date for us is May 15, so we expect the occassional cold snap but this continues to be a very cold late winter and spring so far. I have onions plants arriving the first week of April and have not been able to get the garden ready for them yet.

How are you doing with your school work? I see, from an earlier post, that you are involved "Script Frenzy". I will have to check out the link you posted and see what you are up to!

I wish you luck with your broody hen! And why is Spring taking so long to get here? It's freezing!

School is going quite nicely. Math is really easy now! And literal equations are really fun to do. My other subjects are doing fine, although I have a huge Q&A on fungi I have to write by Thursday, but I don't get to that lesson until Tuesday! *laughs*

If you want to find me on Script Frenzy, I'm TewiInaba. It seems to be pretty fun~

I'm glad to hear you're doing well with your school work. Fungi, which is what my husband calls mushrooms, are quite interesting, and some are also quite tasty! Perhaps I'll try and find you on Script Frenzy toward the end of the week. The beginning of this next week will be very busy for me. Once I get my laundry finished, I will be heading to bed to get a good start for it!!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Indeed they are! I recently learned about slime molds, which are in the phylum Myxomycota. Incredibly fascinating, but math and nuclear science are still much cooler.
If you want to join, Screnzy begins April 1st and lasts until April 30th.

Sweet dreams!
