Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Quote:
It is a lot warmer on the western side of the state, they get a lot of snow, but it would not be so bad if you were retired. We live on the far northeastern edge of the state....much colder and usually less snow.
Pole Bridge is about 800 miles from us!

Glad you are catching the nasty critters Sam. I need you to come over here with your traps. Something got my Aylesbury duck a couple of nights ago, assuming it's the same fox that got my lemon cuckoo orpington a couple of months ago. So we spent the weekend building a new run for them. Its right in front of the house this time, just outside of the place where the dogs sleep and there are security lights that make the place look like the Las Vegas strip if anything goes past so hopefully that should deter any nasties for a while.

Do you think it's big enough for 3?

Hmmmmm, incubator will be free in less than a week, I guess it's time to start looking for eggs again!

The remaining 3. They told me they were desperate for some new playmates.

Lockdown tomorrow for 18 eggs. 10 are Marsh Daisys and 8 are mutts. Lets hope i get a better pullet/roo ratio than my last hatch. Of the 7 that hatched I have..... um.... 7 boys. Move over Ranchie, your crown is slipping.

Sometimes I am reminded of the old joke "Why do husbands die before their wives? Because they want to". I think any time you have two women living in the same household you are asking for trouble. Hope and Granny a forever bumping heads, getting their feelings hurt and each thinks the other is at fault. Hope grumbles that Granny never puts things in the kitchen back where she had them and Granny complain that Hope doesn't put things in the right place. It makes me think that the "right place" would be somewhere I'm not.

This morning they both we in splendid moods. That is if you didn't have to be anywhere near them. Don't know why they were on edge this morning but it certainly was tense. Hope did relent and ask Granny to prepare a packaged pasta salad while she was gone. She was trying to accommodate Granny, make her feel useful and needed. Good plan right? Unfortunately Granny misread the instructions and added the seasoning packet to the water as the pasta cooked rather than adding it after the pasta was rinsed. She came to me asking if I thought we needed to added something to this bland salad and I discovered her error. Like an idiot I showed her where she misread the instructions. No big deal, right? I wish. Now she is on the pity pot and I have to listen to it.

I wonder if there is a monastery on some remote mountain top that needs another hermit?

I guess part of this old man routine is waking up early. For some reason I rarely sleep much past 5am. I actually like the fact that no one else in the house is awake. I put on a pot of coffee, work the crossword puzzle, think about what I will do for the rest of the day. I really enjoy sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee listening to the day begin. It starts with the cooing of the doves that nest in the boxes I put up around my shop. The sun has yet to break over the horizon but as everything starts to brighten additional birds add their songs to the morning music. A nice relaxing, yet humbling way to start the morning.

Unfortunately, sunrise currently occurs over two hours after I awake. Plus it is still to cussed cold to sit outside. It will be the middle of June before sunrise and my wake up time even come half way close.
