Hi y'all! We live in Southern Louisiana and it is hot, hot, hot! My husband has finished the floor of our 12 X 16 coop and today will be framing the walls. I've read a thread on BYC that you cannot have too much ventilation so we are going for an open air coop. Two walls will be nearly all open to the inside of the run. We are using glavanized 1/2" (1 x 2) hardware cloth for the "open" walls. We will also have additional vents near the roof and several windows that will be covered in hardware cloth on the enclosed walls. The floor is up on cement blocks (like many homes down here) and is elevated 3 feet off the ground so our flock will have a retreat from the heat underneath. We get a lot of rain so the roof will extend over half of the run.

I'll post pictures over the next few weeks as we complete the coop. Do you have an open air coop? Please share your photos! Uh...how do I post a photo?
