I have 2 young Dominique hens that sometimes breath with their beaks open. I call it panting. They look very healthy, no other signs of illness. Should I be worried??

I thought they might just be cooling themselves, but it's comfortable here, around 80 degrees.

Is it 80 in the coop or outside? Can they go outside and sit in the shade if they want? I know that when it is 80 here my coop gets over 100 degrees. The chickens have water and shade and food in the coop and stay outside all day.

80 outside. I think they are just hot like you said. I am fairly new to chickens and was just a little concerned. Thanks for making me feel better. The girls have really grown on me, and I was a little worried they were sick.

My experience is mainly with exotic birds, large parrots etc. I'm new to chickens.... However, w/exotics it is a sign that they are hot and trying to cool themselves. To help w/this we put those plastic inserts you can freeze into our gals water containers. we also take other steps, changing their water twice a day and giving them "watery" veggies and fruits especially w/the heat of summer...
