I thought that my Silkie had completely ripped her toe off, but now looking at it more. I think the bone is still there and there is no tissue covering it. She isnt messing with it. Should I leave the bone alone and hope skin grows over it? Any other suggestions? I thought the whole thing was gone.

Bump...Just hoping someone might have some suggestions on how to handle her toe.

She's washed, goo'd with neosporin but I dont have anything wrapped on her. She's isolated in a dog crate on the porch so she cant interact with anyone else that could potentially hurt her any further. She seems to be leaving things alone. I thought up until earlier that the bone was gone until I was examining her foot today. What I thought was a feather shaft looks like its bone. I didnt want to mess with it too much incase it is, and cause her any pain.

I had the same issue with a white rock. I accidently closed her toe in the coop door and took the whole thing off. Don't put alcohol or peroxide on it. If there is exposed bone it needs to be trimmed off. using scissors, nail clippers, whatever is easier, just make sure its sterilized. I used betadine iodine daily to clean the area, just on a cotton ball. Then applied neosporin and wrapped it in gauze. Then I wrapped the whole area up to the foot in vet wrap. Keep her in the dog crate until the skin grows over the bone good. just change the bandage daily. It may take a while for the new skin to grow but eventually it will. I kept my hen wrapped up for about a week or so before i took it off. Hope this helps you! here are some pics of her foot when it happened.

UGH! I was hoping no one would say this.

well, it looks like we will be chicken vets in the morning. Thanks for posting the pictures. It helped me get an idea of how to wrap her foot up.
