Nice!

What part of the upstate are you in?

Spartanburg/Greenville county line, 15 miles from the NC state line.

Well shoot! I'm about 25miles on the other side of the NC line!

Now I'm trying to decide how to disassemble my big coop and to make it into something useable like yours, lol.

Your flock did ok in all the snow we got this year?

All my flocks have done great in the snow. I have 4 of those big tractors/coops/pens.....er, M*A*S*H units with about 6-9 birds birds in each one. I did not even cover them as well this year as I did last year. They like the sun to come in from the south on nice days so I left it open on that side as well as the east side.
Unfortunately, the snow likes to come in from the east most of the time but I can't cover that side since I cover the west and the north sides. They do not have anything to go into like a box or barrel but they are out of the wind and in these coops they can still get down off the roost and dig around in the dirt while the free range birds have no where to go except about a 2 ft strip I shovel snow off of to walk around the barn doing my chores.

And my other LF did well in some of my other tractors, too. This is my red contraption with my BLRWs.

The Crazy Chicken Lady

That's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time !

What area do you live in . . . . just wondering how cold the winters are ?

That design would be great for 3 of the seasons here in NePA.

Oops ! Did I little more reading and answered my own questions !

Yup! I try to give plenty of info on my website and on here.

And yeah, I am certainly the crazy chicken lady. With more than 600 chicks and chickens and hatching all the time. i run the farm mostly by myself but DH helps when he can. The M*A*S*H unit is his design and he built them with my help.

I read the book that was posted on the Wood's coop thread. I am convinced that this is the way to go when raising chickens. Pat has been telling us for I don't know how long about ventilation and raising chickens in the far north. These coops that are even more open are perfect for us in the south. We can always pretty them up if we want but remember function befor fashion!!

My open air coop is in the back left corner:

My experience has been that chickens love complete open air. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and even on the rainiest and coldest days my chickens will roost in the outdoor section. As you can see, I have a small house inside if they choose to be there.
