Open mouth breathing Buff Orpington

Hi all,
My four babies are officially 1 month old today, on the bright side and quite off topic.

Now for the actual problem.. I'm worried about my Buff Orpington hen, Dippy. When she was a few days old I noticed she held her mouth open and stretched her neck pretty often. I worried, so I did a bunch of research and I was told she was just stretching and itching her throat. She seemed to grow out of it and I haven't seen her do it since the week I got her. Now today I came home to her holding her mouth open steadily. She looks like she might be having breathing difficulties.. What could be causing this? What should I do? Is this common? Will she be okay?

Is it hot where you and they live? Sounds like she's simply panting, which they do when they're hot just like dogs. Our girls pant, but not all of them do it at the same time either. Just depends on how hot they are at the time. I hope that's all your little one is doing.

mine do this when they are hot. hopefully that's all it is with yours too. do you live in a warm area? make sure she has plenty of cool water to drink. I hope this helps some and good. luck!
