Thanks also, Sharol, for the photo -- that's a nice set up, and I will definitely take your advice on spacing the perches.
We do have 3 open-top nests on the floor now, so I'll just leave them in there while I cobble together some alternatives.
15 minutes later... HA!
I went out to feed them this morning... the adults were out in the run, but the pubescents were still in the coop, so I went in to check it out.
Two girls were wedged together in one of the open boxes on the floor, laying their first little eggs.
And just in time -- the adults are starting to moult.
The rest of the girls were gathered around, watching, a couple perched on the dividers and pooping into the nest box behind them.
And the Polish boys were jumping around and crowing all at the same time.
I love chickens!
wisher1000 -- Our landlady owns the property and has more or less given us free range.
There are 35 of us living here (landlady included), 12 of us are involved in the chicken experiment, but 5 of us really do all the work. This particular neighbor and I are the orchestrators of the whole thing.
