Open wound on my chicken

Well, I used the sterile saline in a large syringe to flush the wound rather than soaking. I wasn't sure on how much epsom salt to use per gallon of water for actually soaking her. If anyone knows that, I will give it a try tomorrow. She did pretty well with the rinse, only squirming once. The honey was pretty easy to apply. I used a tongue depressor type of appliquater and applied above the wound and the honey just kind of flowed right over the whole wound. She was very calm through this. I took pictures but have been having a problem getting it to upload....I will try again a little later to get those out.

Oh, I did get the poultry wound spray from Fleet Farm so I do have that on hand should I need it but liked the honey idea more. Thanks again to all of you!

Attached are a couple of photos of the injury.

Oh my stars!! No wonder you were in panic mode!!! I see what you meant when you said "there's nothing to sew together." Great job keeping it together and helping her. You will be amazed at how fast she will heal. But I would definitely supplement her protein intake to help those feathers grow in and give her more nutrition to put toward healing! Do keep us posted on her progress and keep the wound clean & painted with honey. We're all thinking of ya. Great job, Chicken Mom, Great job!
