open wound, skin gone, maggots in body

With time and diligence, she has a good chance of full recovery.
Have you seen the large area without skin heal? I'm thinking she needs to stay inside until there is adequate healing happening. It is also stressful for her to be in a cage, I would guess. I take her out once or twice a day for fresh air and a little sunshine, but don't want flies to have a chance to lays eggs on her open wound!

I would just keep trying to keep her skin clean and apply the disinfectant so that it will promote healing. Offer her nutritious food with good protein, and keep her well hydrated. Deep wound can heal with vigilant care. Many hens do recover from flystrike if the wound is discovered early enough.
Thanks. She is doing well and seems interested in continuing on in her life so we'll keep up with her as best we can.

Bernie seems to be getting stronger daily. Last night she sat on a roost stick we put in the dog kennel she's staying in. We've brought her outside daily and she walks around and pecks at things, eats bugs and greens. Today she was trying over and over to take a dust bath. I continued to stop her from doing this as I don't want the wounded area to get full of dirt. Any thoughts on this. I plan to keep her away from this activity until the area is fully closed up and more healed.

Yes, I would keep her from taking a dust bath for now. Large wounds like that can and do heal with time, and keeping them cleaned and moist with the plain antibiotic ointment. As long as it seems to be clean and healing, you can clean it with saline, then apply the ointment twice a day. Glad that she is feeling well enough to be active. You might want to make her a tee shirt to place over the wound while she is outside to keep it clean.
