Thank you! Those are my buff orpingtons.

Those are certainly adorable but I mean the photo under your name - with the speckled eggs and such.

The white/browm are coturnix quail and the itsy ones are button quail.

Hope you don't mind that I answered... BTW, do you cut your cartons down?

No - I don't mind! I went to bed early (much needed which is why I didn't read very well) so thanks!!

I trim the cartons - cut the lid off and trim up the sides. I sometimes take scissors and put a hole in the bottom of each cell to help with the airflow. I haven't noticed a difference in the hatch if I don't do the holes, so I'm not sure it really matters.

The quail eggs are so beautifull - makes me want t o get a few quail - I read they shouldn't be kept with chickens because they get the same diseases. But that doesn't make much sense. Seems you just shouldn't put diseased quail in with your chickens. Do you have quail? if so, Do you keep them separate from the chickens?

Cindy, I am about to put my eggs in cartons this afternoon and saw that yours were in foam carton and all I have are paper. Does it matter?

I actually prefer the cardboard ones but I have used the styrofoam.

I also keep my quail separated from the chickens, not because of diseases. The quail are so much smaller than the chickens and they also fly. I open the door to the chicken coop and let my chickens out during the day. No way you could do that with quail or they'd be gone.

The quail are kept in cages using 1/2" hardware cloth as the flooring, and I have pull-out trays for easy cleaning. I'm getting ready to move them outdoors in rabbit hutches but right now they're in the basement.

Thanks for the egg carton idea! My first hatch was so messy, I'll definitely try the egg carton for this batch!
