Ok...I'm asking for opionions. Tell me what you would do.

I allow the chickens in their outdoor area while I'm at work. They can also get back into their coop at anytime. I work from 7:30 till any time between 11 and 2 in the afternoon. Every day is different. I pick my daughter up at 3. What I'm wondering is if you all think it's ok to allow my chickens to Free Range while I go pick up my daughter. It's takes about 1/2 hr. total to get her and bring her back home. No one else would be here at that time except for some chickens out wondering around. Do ya think it's safe that short of time to be out with no one around? I don't have a rooster to let the hens know if danger is about. Our property lays in the middle of 500 acres of farm land. We do see Hawks once in a while, and fox sometimes ( mostley at night). Only 3 raccoons and 1 opossum in the 5 years we lived here.

I would hate to make them wait till after I pick up my daughter for them to be allowed out in the yard to do as they please.

They have been able to free range since this past Thurs. Sat & Sun all day. Now I feel bad cause I have to lock them up while I'm at work. Let alone have to make them wait extra time till I pick up my daughter. And they know and get all excited when I come home.

Mabey I'm too protective?
So what would you do?

I only let my birds out free when someone is home. The biggest problem for me is roaming dogs.
No doubt, however, the girls practically knock me over when I do let them out!
