Hi all, I’ve learned so much from everyone and become enthralled by chicken genetics. My dad has had chickens longer than I’ve been alive but since getting into chicken keeping myself, my curiosity has grown about the chickens at my parents farm. They gather eggs daily and don’t usually let hens sit, but sometimes they will hide a nest and appear with chicks as a surprise.

His flock is mostly Black Australorps, Rhode Island reds and lots of Easter Eggers. He’s had some birds just dropped off or adopt their farm so I’ve seen one polish rooster, one light Brahma rooster and a handful of EE roosters and a few other random hens. No laced birds except the two hens in this post.

He said these two hatched from a Australorp and RIR rooster a few years ago. I don’t think that’s possible but are these BYMs? How would he hatch laced birds without any lacing in his older birds?

And are the last pics of a splash Araucana? That’s what he was told and but I’m thinking it’s more likely she’s an EE?

I appreciate any input it’s been fun trying to figure out what they’ve got on their property!

Still trying to figure out what BYM is...... 🤷🏻‍♂️

The white with black spots occurs when you mix all kinds of things together. We have them running around everywhere here. Certainly is 1/2 Easter Egger (which could be who knows what also)
Back yard mix? Or I thought that’s what it meant lol

The laced ones are dark Cornish hens.

The white and black I'm guessing is a mix of Austra white and Easter egger, but it could be a lot of other things.
Thank you! I knew they looked like a breed but couldn’t figure out what. I’m not in the business of telling my dad he’s wrong about chickens but I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity!
