Ive used sharpies, crayons and pencils. Never noticed any difference between them.
Opinions on Marking Eggs

just me but I just fill out an incubation form when I am doing a staggered hatch I fill out 2 forms and just put a space between the hatches/Eggs I just mark the form once instead of 120 eggs
