I ordered 26 chicks from McMurray Hatchery about a week ago and they will be arriving on February 20th. I am looking for some input from fellow chicken lovers who have gotten the same breeds that I am getting from McMurray. I would also like to hear some opinions from people who have ordered from McMurray in the past and hear their experiences. Thanks!

These are the breeds I am getting-

Araucana
Black Star
Red Star
Cuckoo Maran
Golden Polish
Buff Orpington
Cornish X Rocks (for meat)

I ordered my first chickens from MurrayMcMurray. The chicks arrived promptly (the day after they were boxed). All were healthy and didn't lose one of them. I have tried a few other hatcheries also. I returned to McMurray as I like their cornish broilers best. I indicated that I didn't want any free exotic with my big meaties. I also called to ensure they would not include the free exotic. When I opened the box of chicks, there was this tiny little dainty silver spangled hamburg along with the hoofers. Whoops. I suppose they are so busy that time of year that it was just automatic to put an exotic in the box. Well, as it turns out, that little rooster is the best rooster I have ever had. Glad he came, glad I kept him.

That's so great to hear! I am not ordering any roosters so I am hoping my free rare exotic is a rooster. I have read some mixed reviews online about McMurray but they all seem to be from people who have just "heard through the grape vine". I am so relieved to hear that your chicks arrived promptly- that's what I was worried about. Thanks for your post

I also like McMurray, had a good experience with them. I ordered five each of five different breeds, and all arrived prompt and healthy, and they added an additional leghorn (to the five already ordered) plus an exotic (turned out to be a GLW rooster). The chickens are 23 weeks old now and doing great! I will definitely order from McMurray again.

I have ordered from them several times and always been very pleased. My birds have always arrived happy and healthy as well as grown to be happy and healthy birds. VERY QUALITY chickens in my opinion. Buff Orps are my hands down favorite and mcmurray I think has a good quality orpington, also black stars are great....great layers, very pretty too. Americanas are good theya re a smaller chicken and are somewhat more flighty a bird, definately not docile but not aggressive either the last ones I ordered though were clean faced and I prefer the facial fluffs. I love the X rock from there, I order them yearly and have been very pleased.

We've ordered through McMurray three times now. All of the birds are of excellent quality and have always been very healthy. We have lost one bird with each shipment though - one duck, one turkey, and one cornish x but McMurray gave us a credit for them ... which they still haven't applied to our next order despite us repeatedly asking them to. It has always taken three days to get our birds, which blows my mind since I could drive up there and pick them up and drive home again in less time. Our cornish x birds were fabulous and we have no complaints on the quality of the birds or how they grew. We ended up with birds that dressed out at 6 lbs.

We did get an extra chick with our order ... it wasn't rare or unusual at all ... rather it was an EE still not sure if it's a roo or not. It really is a mutt bird as it has feathers from dang near every bird I've seen all thrown together.

Our only complaint with McMurray is with their customer service. They are not exactly the most helpful people we've ever dealt with, don't follow through with requests very well, and the three times we've called the customer service reps didn't even seem to know company policies well enough to explain them to us or tell us what to expect.

The birds have been great and very healthy. We love our girls and we have another order placed with them for spring.

My first order of chicks was ordered through them and have ordered many times since. I still have my buff Cochin hen from my very first order. That would make her 11 years-old!!!! I think you've made a good decision to order from them.

Have fun with those new fluffballs when they arrive!!

I have ordered from them once. I ordered 22 EE's and four barred rocks. We lost one the second day and two ended up with crooked beak. All EE's but I sent an email after we found out and they refunded the price the next day with a prompt email back. There customer service impressed me and the rest are healthy and good quality. I will order from them again in the spring when we are ready for our turkeys. They were also shipped very quick and in a good quality box.
