That's horrible that they chilled those chicks trying to save a buck.
I've seen sad situations in feed stores as well (where I have pointed out a deceased chick and an empty water container) but they aren't all bad. The co-op here gives the chicks a hiding place as well as the basics and the brooders always look well-kept. They order pullets, pricing is reasonable, and they have a schedule showing what breeds are arriving when so there aren't any mystery chicks. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them either.
