Opinions on this Tennessee Walking Horse, and the breed in general..

I think it's a weird angle - his rear is closer to the camera so he looks a little strange.
I think he's a handsome boy, but I know very little about the breed other than I love to watch them move. Wasn't this breed originally developed to tour the plantation all day long? I would imagine you would want a little chunk to him if you intend to use him on the trail.
I agree with Angie n Maine about what is happening, esp. with Morgans. The Morgans that are being produced now are a bunch of high-strung foo-foos that are only fit for the show ring. There are very few people breeding them to still be capable of the myriad duties that the breed became known for in the first place. Very sad!

I used to have Foxtrotters and one of my mares had Midnight Sun as her great grandsire thru her sire. Mother was Foxtrotter. Also had half Arab TN Walking mare that was such a BAD looking mare but sweet and gentle to ride LOL!

I must agree that the Morgans, MoFT, and TWH and Paso Finos has changed with the times from stocky to refined airheads and some cant gait worth a crap! They are getting more and more crazy and one could not understand whats wrong with the breed. Well we bred the brains, gaits and conformations out the door.

I like the old classic horses, the stockier ones and they seem to hold up better than today's horses. Most of the todays horses will fall apart after a few years of hard showing.

From what the pic shows, I think he is nice looking.

We had a fabulous old Morgan when I was a kid. He was a little 14/2 bay that lived well into his 40's, and he had done everything in his life. He could go under saddle, or he could drive alone or in a team; he had logged, sugared, farmed, been in pulling competitions, and gone over fences. He could romp the trails like a trooper and cleaned up nice the next day for the show ring. He could run like the wind or he could trot all day. He even did a fair cow-pony imitation once when the neighbor's dairy cows escaped!

I think that you should go try him out. It would not hurt if you did a couple of times. I you want to build up your confidence thwem you want to be sure that He will not be too much. If you are really interested in him, take someone (vet. or a farrier that you trust & who will be working with the horse) alone just to make sure the conformation is good. (looks good) & their oppinion. But most of all you go with your heart. You will know!!! (been around these amazing creatures my whole life) Good luck keep us posted!

As is usual with me, I got sidetracked and started ranting and raving instead of saying what I got on to say!

Anyway, I wanted to say that it sounds like the main issue here is that you have become frightened, and that is a hard feeling for a rider to overcome. The thing you want to be looking for in a horse is that he is sweet, kind, and honest. That's what you need to get your confidence back up.
Have you been to visit him yet?

I have a cute little Peruvian Paso - she's a doll, small at 14.3 but super easy to mount thats for sure!

Love gaited horses, I like to just trail ride for the most part, and trail riding a gaited horse is better than riding in a 4x4!

Very sure footed, my girl, like a BIG mountain goat!

Ooooh Lucky Wildsky! I would love my next horse to be gaited. Mainly because I hate, hate, hate to post and my DH can't really ride too well (even though he thinks he can), so he needs all the help he can get!

No we haven't been to see him

although he's still for sale with the higher price tag. We decided to send my colt to a trainer instead and see how he turns out, although I still like the TWH better LOL. We took my colt there yesterday, and the little monster was acting nothing like he does at home. I think it was a shock to the system being away from his herd, and being around someone who wasn't scared of him. I have a lot of faith in the guy we took him to, he practices natural horsemanship and was not mean to him but didn't baby him either. He wasn't nearly as bad with my husband as with me, but he just doesn't have the time to work with him. My father in law has offered to let me pick one of the ranch horses to use as my own for now, which will probably work out better as I can swap if we don't get along, and it won't be our feed/vet bill to pay. I have a feeling my husband is going to end up using my colt for the next few yrs before I want to get anywhere near him. He doesn't seem to realise that if i've lost my nerve with horses, this colt and I aren't a good combination. The colt reads me like a book, and we make each other worse.

Dunno about lucky...... I rode her out on the driveway a month or two ago and she bucked me off - not sure WHAT her problem was, she's never been that "SPICY" with me before, I've not gotten back on her since!

I don't know if I can!
She needs buddies, she doesn't like being alone, she's been alone now for 4 months, and been acting NUTS since then.
