Hi I am new to the whole chicken thing and I was looking to get some new chicks when the Gold Laced and Silver Laced Wyandottes caught my eye. I am really wanting to get some but I have a few questions about the breed and where I should get them from.

1. Are they very friendly?
2. Are they "broody"?
3. Should I get them from a hatchery or would a breeder be better?

Thanks so much for the help.

Welcome to BYC!

Wyandottes are hardy, pretty, and dual-purpose. I have a Silver Laced, a Blue-laced Red and a Columbian Wyandotte. They are too young to know if they will go broody (3 weeks about), but I'm pretty sure the breed has the tendency. However, being so large, they can break eggs while sitting on them.

Are they friendly? YES! Blue, my Columbian, loves to snuggle and peeps to be near me. Scarlet (blue-laced red) likes to sleep in my lap and is thoughtful about everything she does.

Chiefess (Silver laced) has been curious, friendly, and bold from the beginning. She loves to greet me, take treats, and perch on my arm or leg to rest.

I got my three from McMurray, which I find to be a great hatchery. However, there are a ton of other resources, from backyard breeders to other large hatcheries.

Best of luck!
