Opps..... Looks like my rabbit might be pregnant!

Good luck to you BantamLover!

Flora gave birth overnight on day 30 (Tuesday/Wednesday)!! She had 5 kits in total (quite a lot for a Mini Lop?)- one was born outside the nest which I found dead, plus there was a stillborn kit inside the nest box, so overall I had 2 dead kits and 3 healthy alive kits!

They are snuggled inside a thick layer of fur and all have huge bellys. I'm so proud of how well she's done, considering it's her first litter!

I'll update and post pics as they get older....

Thanks,

Thank you! Neither of my does has kindled yet. One isn't due until tomorrow and the other, though due today, usually goes a day late. The waiting is killing me! lol

I'm glad to hear Flora's kindling went pretty well. Unfortunately, a few stillborns are not uncommon, especially with first-timers. 5 is a good sized litter for a Mini Lop, IMO. Mini Lops are slightly larger than Mini Rex and the two litters of Mini Rex I've raised have had 5 and 6 kits.

Well it turns out that she actually had 6 (3 dead and 3 alive)..... She delivered the last one a day later and it was pretty bloody and deformed :(....

The 3 remaining kits are all doing well and are starting to get fur: it looks like I have 1 orange, 1 black and 1 blue/agouti (still hard to tell). I have tried sexing them, but every time I pick one up, it squirts pee at me :lol.

Please keep us updated on how it goes, Bantam Lover- it is really exciting :D.

What color were the two parents? You wouldn't be able to have a black and an agouti in the same litter, just due to the way the A series in rabbit color genetics work.

Of course you can, if both parents have at least one copy of the self gene (a), and at least one parent has a copy of the agouti gene (A).
