or.Feather impacted

Hi - I have a rooster who has a feather trying to poke through his skin by his tail area . It looks painful, It is probably 1/4 inch high and is red. The side/tip of the skin has some tiny feathers coming out. The other full feathers around the impacted feather are turning a soft yellow color. When I touch the skin it is hard and does not feel like it is hot. Should I let him take care of it or will it brake through on its own. He is not bothering it or the feathers around it.

Try putting some warm water on it. it may go down that way. what it is. is a ingrown feather. just like your ingrown eyelash. hair. etc. truthfully what i would do is probably Pull it out. pain for a few seconds. but it would probably go down. just make it your call. what would you do with a ingrown hair?
