Oral thrush??

I don’t believe in treating chickens who do not show symptoms. Here is some info on dosage:

In link it says to mix 1 gram (about 1/4 tsp) in 20 ml of water, and give 1 ml for every 100 grams of weight.

Only thing I see wrong is her breathing you can hear her breath from a feet or two away. Don’t know if that’s the heat or lesions blocking her breathing.

Actually I was wrong don’t know how I didn’t smelled it before but today I smelled it and it smelled funky and one of my other hens seems to have one bit on the same side of her beak. So I’m going with canker.

Gentian violet is a good treatment for oral thrush, if it is in fact oral thrush. A q-tip dipped in and swabbed inside the mouth every couple of days as it wears off will kill the bacteria.

I’m doubting it’s thrush have seen canker is infectious and smells and two of my hens have it one more minor. And the one who had it for longer smells funky.

Thrush could smell funky too, but I just wanted to throw that treatment option out there in case someone else is reading this thread, or if you needed the advice. Good luck with your chicken.

Eta, I do believe Candida bacteria is also transmissible.

Thank you. So I’ll probably buy fish Zole forte powder packets for her. But i don’t know how to administer it.

Oh ok if they are both infectious I might buy both should I buy the 500mg packet powder since those are the only ones I could find?

Candida albicans and thrush are the same thing, and that is a fungal infection, not bacterial. Canker, which it sounds like it is, is a protozoa. The Fish Zole (metronidazole) dosage is 50 mg per pound of weight, or 250mg for a 5 pound chicken. Give it once a day for 5 days.
