I have never been to a chicken meetup and would love to see other peoples birds! I have bantam cochins as pets and love them!!! My girl goes broody a lot and I had such a hard time finding fertile bantam cochin eggs that did not need to be mailed from across the country

Or just go on the web, type meetup, then search for the group. Let me know if you can't find it. You may have to signup but I don't remember if that is so. No cost of course.

We're talking about doing it around February 1, 2015 (but if locals want to meet beforehand, that is fine). Otherwise, add comments on the meetup site.

Is anyone else feeling sorry for their chickens? I have two barred rocks, 8 months old now, that look so sad in the rain. They aren't acting funny, and they have dry places to hang out in the coop, but they look too wet to me. Is there anything I should be doing during this storm to keep them happy/drier?

Yes to feeling sorry for them! But I think they're fine. If they have dry places to get to, they'll be perfectly okay. I reached into my coop an hour after bedtime last night, and everyone was toasty warm and dry. I've got young ones, too, that I was concerned about, but they are more excited to run in the rain than the big ones!

Mine hate the rain...LOL! Ok if its wet but the minute water hits them from the sky...forget it! We have an indoor area so toasty warm and dry...spoiled for sure!!!

I was really impressed : my cream Legbar managed to stay dry through all the rain. Only 12 weeks and super smart! She's earned name, Hermione.

I live in FV and last year I called and I got the same answer "No chickens."

How can we change this? I think it is ridiculous that you can buy a chicken coop at SAMs Club in FV but you can't have chickens. HB allows them.

I just checked this thread after starting it a couple years ago...I figured out the answer altering moving to rural SLO County. Move to the country! lol It actually amazes me still that places have laws against hens, I get the roosters being restricted. I live out in the country now and a few neighbors, not very close I might add, have roosters that will sometimes crow as early as 3 and 4 AM. It's plenty loud, so I totally understand the urban ordinances.

The last time I checked the law is Orange County CA is that every home can have up to 3 or 4 hens (no roosters, except for a few small areas such as Orange Acres) excluding,
Mission Viejo, Irvine, Newport Beach, and maybe Ladera Ranch??
