I brought two young orange trees back from Florida with me, despite the fact that nothing grows in this house. I figure they can spend their summers on the porch.

I've informed DH that they will grow here even if I have to fly them back to Florida every winter.

Actually, they do need cold weather to sweeten the oranges. They just need to be protected from a hard freeze. Maybe you could find an old smut pot to fire up with kerosene and place it near them! That's what they used to do in the orange groves.

even better

now you need a large heated green house that will stand up to an Arkansas winter, with the big plus of year round veggies!

Yep, having grown up smack dab in the middle of a small orange grove in Florida, I miss my fresh oranges.

You too? I grew up in the middle of our family owned grove in Kissimmee, Florida. Although, I never did particularly like oranges.

It is very nice. I do miss that from time to time....But I DO NOT miss hand squeezing oranges every Sunday morning.

It was 2 years before my step dad ever told me we had an electric juicer.

Oh no a hand squeezer! I have one of those if I just need to do one or two orange/lemons/grapefruit but otherwise time to plug in!

Last year I had a super over grown lemon to deal with. We gave away boxes and boxes full of lemons, but I ended up juicing a ton of them too. Thought the power juicer was going to die that weekend! We froze it the juice in small bottles to use for lemonaid for the next year

Yeah, I hated juicing. I never juiced anything but oranges. I hated picking them too...every once in awhile you'd find a snake.
