Hey guys. So ive noticed a lot of watery, light brown to orangeish brown poop from my youngsters after putting them with my flock. Is it maybe coccidiosis? For some reason its not allowing me to upload pics so can anyone show me poop from chickens with coccidia or help me fimd out what is causing this? Would it hurt to go ahead and treat my flock as a preventative. TIA

It never hurts to treat a flock for coccidiosis if you have the least suspicion about it. Amprolium and other coccidiostats are not like antibiotics or other meds that cause the target pathogen to become resistant.

The way the coccidiostat works is by blocking the uptake of thiamine (B-1) depriving the coccidia of the B vitamin they need to reproduce and complete their life cycle. For that reason, withholding vitamins during treatment is advised so as not to hinder the treatment's effectiveness.

Corid (amprollium) liquid may be a little cheaper than the powder at TSC. Dosage for an outbreak is 2 tsp (10 ml) per gallon of water for 5-7 days. The powder dosage is 1 1/2 tsp per gallon. Corid is safe to treat all birds, but make sure they drink enough. You can even add a little to some feed. Raise your waterers to should height to keep out poops, and try to keep your brooder clean and dry. Add clean bedding as needed.
