ordered chickens and need info please

I have Cochins and Sultans coming next week....
I am unsure how long the babies (they will be 1-2 days old)
need to stay in the brooder??

my fella ordered 36 chickens...should be fun!!

They don't "need" to be in a brooder at all, they can be raised in the coop -- but they need supplemental heat for a while. I would suggest you go to the learning center (brown bar, top of page) and click on "getting started," then "raising chicks 101."

I got my chicks little over a week ago and I do not use a brooder...my chicks are in the coop with a 250 watt red heat lamp. My coop is not large so it was easy for me to section off 1/2 of it to keep them in a confined area. for the first 2 days I used puppy piddle pads over the top of the pine shavings just to make sure that they knew where the food was and didn't eat too many wood chips. So far everyone is doing great and growing faster than weeds. FYI: I don't have other chickens, so brooding them in the coop was easy....if you have grown chickens then it may not be as easy.
