I ordered some hatching eggs for tuxedo quail off of Ebay. Seller had great pics, great feedback, sent me extra eggs and I've never seen anything so well packaged in my life. So far 24 of 30 eggs have hatched and the babies are doing GREAT.
However... I have at least 6 different color patterns going on (yellow, yellow with spots, yellow with stripes, 2 kinds of brown striped, little penguins) I assume the tiny pengins are the tuxedo. Don't get me wrong, they're flippin' adorable... but does this sound like I was sent the correct eggs? There are maybe 6 "penguins" of the 24? Can certainly take pictures tomorrow, more are zipping right now.

Can you give me a link to this eBay page you ordered from please?

Pictures of your chicks would help.

I spoke to the seller and they said yes, this was a typical mix. Tuxedos, whites and solids. Here are the little ones:

The white stains (in Germany we call 'em literally "piebalds", like the horses) gene is intermediate, so you cannot breed pure tuxedos. You will always have nearly Whites and once with only small white spots (most on chin or chest), beside nice colored tuxedos. Just random.

Also a certain percentage of hidden rezecive genes combined and revealing in a breed, you'll always have.

Don't blame the breedery.
Sometimes the most beautiful birds are showing up in these little moments.

I have beautiful gold-cinnamon hen, which suposted to be a roux dilute ;)

Your chicks are looking promising!

Thanks! My only experience with quail has been a couple years of the standard brown and A&M white coturnix. So excited to see what these turn into. I had such good luck with these I can see how ordering them can be addictive. The seller is Myshire out of Ohio.

Unfortunately tuxedos don't breed true so the mix you got looks like it came from quite a few colors.

I see some Tibetans in there and possibly a Pansy, some red range too.

Nice colorful batch.

Yes, in the description of the breedery was noted, that silver, rosetta, scarlet and tibetan are basis for the Tuxedos.

Myshire is my dealer too.
So you ordered a tuxedo mix from him?

I think you are surprised because you may have not known to expect anything but tuxedos and that is just not the case...as you see.

I have a list, somewhere, of which colors of his do breed TRUE...I'll dig it out and PM it t you so you know for the future.

I thought I would get a couple of solids and whites but oh my.... going to have a very hard time deciding which birds NOT to keep. Lol.
