Ordering chicks, Where is the best place?

Actually for them to ship to Oregon/Washington it is 4 LF or 5 Bantams for MPC's minimum order.
How much is there shipping/handling cost? I've been going to several sites looking at it but they don't tell shipping/handling on the site. Which is something I need to know. I'm on a limited budget. I'd hate to have to get all the way to the point that they already have my credit card info before finding out the shipping and find out I really didn't have the money for the order.

Most of the hatcheries are not putting out many chicks right now. Meyer has broilers, Cackle is sold out for the year. Havent checked Ideal or McMurry. Most sites will tell you the shipping costs before your final check out. You may have to put chicks in the cart or however they have it set up to get the shipping quote tho.

x2. I have not bought from a hatchery yet, planning on it in the spring. I just know how many the minimum for MPC is because they have a calculator according to zipcode. Honestly if you need chicks now I am still sold on craigslist here in Portland area.

If you cannot own roosters then I would be cautious about getting feed store or Craigslist chicks. Even from a hatchery it's not 100% that you won't get a roo when you order sexed birds but your chances are much better.

My Pet Chicken is an excellent source if you just want to order a few birds, though I don't know how much selection they have right now, take a look at their web site. You have to enter your zip code and they will tell you what your minimum order is. I live in CA and I had to order 7, that was a mixed bantam/standard order. Shipping was expensive, I don't recall the amount, but it was worth it. They shipped Express Mail, the chicks left Ohio on a Tues at 4:00 p.m., they were in my hands the next day at noon. Not even 24 hours.

To find out exact shipping select the chicks you want and go to check out, your shipping will be reflected. If you don't want to order don't place it but that's the only way to get an exact figure.

Ideal does have chicks. Lots of bantams and bantam assortment for .95 a chick (min order 25) on special. worth checking out. I got one good sized order from them back in march and they all seemed to be good quality.

I'm on day 17 of incubation, they are due in 4 days. I don't think i"m likely to find any day old chicks in that time :(
On craigslist the "chicks" I found in my area are all older, i called around to people on there even and was told nobody has chicks right now.
I will just deal with the very few that hatch and put their brooder my living room so they get a lot of attention.
Lesson learned, Put as many eggs as will fit in the incubator even if i only want 6 to hatch. Then i can sell/give away the extras.
