ordering eggs! what should i get?

unless you are after a particular breed I would try your hand at hatching something you can get locally before you go ordering something expencive through the mail. My first incubator hatch I bought a colorful batch of fertile eggs from the farmers market, got a nice mix of cute mutt chicks.

You're much better off starting with local eggs, than shipped ones. Shipping is very rough on them & with how hot it's been lately it's even worse. Usually, if you get a 50-60% hatch rate with shipped eggs, you're doing good. The best I've ever gotten with them is 71% & the worst is 0%.

You can't go wrong with Silkies for broodies & they're pretty to look at, too. We have two that recently decided to go broody & one of those had just started to lay. We love our Polish, too, because they're beautiful & a hoot to watch.

Lots of good luck
