Of the ones you have listed, I would vote for the Barred Rocks. My wyandottes, although beautiful in appearance are my most aggressive breed and the least friendly. Having said that, if you are lusting for the salmon favorelles then nothing else will do. Wait for them.

Let us know what you decide.

So far I have had Barred Rocks, RIRs, Silver and Golden laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, and Black Australorps. I think the Rocks had the best personality, RIRs were second in this respect. (But these chicks lived in my daughter's bedroom closet until they were flying, because the coop wasn't ready for them!! Got lots of handling and other special attention.) Great longevity and egg production, both.

I love the Wyandottes for their beauty; the 1st 2 GLWs were a bit aggressive; the SLW were not aggressive, but fell quickly to predators while free-ranging; the 4 GLW hens I have now are not aggressive and are a delight to the eye and silky to pet. Love the Australorps and Orpingtons, too.

Don't really know who is laying what out there, but all of the eggs are shades of brown/taupe/some with darker brown spots.

i almost agree with that statement.... they are awesome birds...

the only down side to them is , there are so many of them!!!! everywhere you look barred rocks,, i just get board,,

I have 6 black astraulorps-love them! I have 1 buff orp-cute
1 silver laced wyandotte-beautiful and sweet nice eggs the other glw is not as sweet as the silver but very efficient food/egg i also have white wyandottes nice big brown eggs but they are just white you want pretty
I have a black copper maran roo that is the daddy to a few that should hatch March 2 I'm excited to see what pretty colors I get
good luck

Australorps and Barred Rocks are very calm, excellent egg layers. Another beautiful hen is the Light Brahma. They are very quiet and stand cold weather very well. I also think the Buff Orpington is a great choice also !

I've got:
RIR's- great layers, friendly, some even come when I call their names
SLW's- also great layers, mine are very affectionate and love to snuggle in my lap
Buff Minorca's-my best layers right now, they're snobs..not interested in physical attention from me at all LOL
Brown Leghorns-not great layers in my opinion, not friendly with me or the other chickens, quite bossy really, they've got 3 different colors in them so may be considered pretty.

I think all chickens are pretty :)

I'm getting ready to place an order for day old chicks consisting of: Buff Orps, Barred Rocks, Cuckoo Marans(if i can find the place that sells pullets instead of just straight runs), Columbians, Partridge Rocks , Lakenvelders and Red Leghorns.
