I'm thinking about ordering some more chicks....I really want some bantam barred plymouth rock chicks. Has anyone here ordered from purely poultry or another online site? What was your experience?

I have ordered from My Pet Chicken twice and have been super happy with my chicks both times! I love being able to pick out 1 or 2 each of a variety of breeds.

Just ordered from Meyer hatchery, they have very low min, Be prepared to pay a lot for shipping. For 4 chicks, vaxed and shipping was $55. I hope it will be worth it, They have a live guarantee for the first 48 hours after you receive them.

New to the forum AND to chicks; looking forward to both! Just picked my peeps up from the PO this morning, and all are doing great so far. I ordered from Cackle Hatchery because the other places I looked at all had minimum orders of 25 and I didn't want to start with that many, AND I wanted a variety. I ordered 15: 5 Aracaunas, 5 Rocks and 5 Cochin. They shipped from Missouri on Wednesday and got to me (in North Central WA) this morning. Started drinking and eating as soon as I got them in the warm brooder and all seem fine so far! Plus they sent an extra Rock. I guess I better get rolling on my coop!

Good Luck!

Wow, VJ! One of the sites said the reason they had minimum orders was so the birds would keep each other warm enough. Maybe that spendy shipping was for overnight delivery? Just guessing, cuz I paid just under $65 for 15 peeps, vaxed and shipped...

(Shipping was $19 and change for priority...)

They are adding some type of heating pad to my order. We live in MN and still get under freezing at night here. They send them express mail(1-3 days) . I called the post office and they will call us as soon as they come in next week. They said the add 4% free chicks to every order, I guess to make up for possible deaths during shipping. Their min for Bantams and chicks is only 3! Good luck!

I ordered from McMurrary this year. Their min is 25, but shipping for me was under $14. That was for Priority mail and mine had a heater pack in it. They sent an extra of one kind I picked and an extra "rare variety" So I got a total of 27. 2 died over the first night. We had had an unusually cold spell, in the teens. I called McMurrary and they credited me for the 2 I lost and asked if all the others looked ok. You can order 1 of each, as long as you order 25. I was very happy with them. I think I will get 25 cornish X's next month. In 8 to 12 weeks you get 8 - 13# dressed birds!

I ordered 12 from Ideal Poultry in Feb, very happy. All were alive on arrival and are gorgeous ladies now. I paid either $32 for 12 or $36...I can't remember. They arrived in a day, from Texas.

If you order from Ideal and you order less than 25, they do include male chicks for warmth, but if you don't want "packing peanuts' then just call after you place the order and tell them you want to purchase the insurance and they won't include the extra males. Insurance is just $1.75 for the order.
