Ordering Pilgrims from a hatchery

I am going to be getting some Pilgrim Geese, and I can order straight run or get a pair. With the pair I can get a goose and gander for sure, but with a straight run...who knows? My picture perfect idea of raising Pilgrims would be to have one gander and two geese. If I order straight run would it be too risky? Would I end up with too many ganders and not enough geese or all geese, etc.? What would you do? Would you order the pair or go with a straight run? If I ordered straight run I would being ordering just three geese.

If you go to Ideal Poultry they have them as pairs, straight run, males, and females. That way you can get what you want. They are sold out right now but if you go on their waiting list they will call you as soon as some come available. I have lucked out and gotten what I wanted in just a few weeks

If you're ordering from a hatchery, for waterfowl I really like Metzer's Farm or Holderread's (but I'm not sure that Holderread sells Pilgrims).

Metzer's is great. They tell you the average quality of their stock, too. My ducks from Metzer's were very healthy.

Country Hatchery sells Pilgrims, I am thinking of getting mine there... they won't ship less than 4 but guarantee unrelated pairs which is good
