Aw, sleepy chicks... This batch of chicks we got are so active, they hardly sleep. They prefer digging through the bedding or knocking out all the feed... I've never had chicks like this before, It's like a new species.

We added three sweet little girls this year, here they are from a few days old through the first three weeks. Buff Brahma (Fluffy), Silver Laced Wyandotte (cannot decide on name haha), and a Cuckoo Maran (Coco). They are amazing!

We got one black copper marans, one blue copper marans, two olive eggers, and a white leghorn because my daughter wanted a yellow chick.

Now 6 weeks later Broody Hen is insisting she needs chicks too. So I let her have some barnyard mix eggs from a friend. The rooster is an EE or EE mix of some kind (very muffy and beardy) and the eggs are one white leghorn, two green from EEs, a cream possibly from a speckled Sussex, and a tan possibly from a brahma or a buckeye. Hoping for a 50 percent fertility/hatch rate because I don't need 5 more chicks, but I wanted to give her a good chance of hatching about two. I have no idea how good my friend's rooster is at his job. Now I have to wait, and it's killing me ...

Oh, and my husband has no idea I switched out Broody's eggs. We haven't had a rooster in two years. So if they hatch I'm gonna have to explain that ...

I bought some chicks and quail locally, and here's what I got:

- 4 French Black Copper Marans
- 1 Buff Orpington
- 4 Americaunas
- 2 Olive Eggers
- 1 Buff Brahma
- 1 Dark Blue Silkie
- 1 Black Silkie
- 1 Lavender Maran
- 2 Barnevelders
- 1 Mottled Japanese Bantam
- 1 Black Japanese Bantam
- 1 Black Tail Buff Japanese Bantam
- 1 Barred Japanese Bantam
- 6 Jumbo Brown Coturnix Quail
- 6 White Coturnix Quail

I'm also planning on putting some Lavender Orpingtons and Lavender Orpington Bantams in the incubator in a few days. ❤️

Using a brooder plate and establishing a day/night cycle makes a world of difference from the red lamp in getting them to sleep.

Recently ordered about 30 chicks, expecting them any time! I got ten Easter Eggers, 10 Golden Laced Wyandottes, and 10 Buff Orpingtons. Planning on selling the BOs, and depending on how quickly I am able to sell them, will hopefully be selling chicks and pulleys all summer!
