Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

I'd assume chicken's anatomy is similar to a parrots, so the esophagus should be the pipe on the left when the bird is facing you. I've hand fed once and was told to always feed with the right hand, into the mouth facing my left, the bird's right. But a hungry baby bird will lunge the syringe and would swallow it if they could... for chickens i usually just dribble water along their beaks and they have to swallow but you spill a lot.

Thanks much everyone!! Wish me luck

Best of luck Zanna! Let us know how your girl is doing.

Serama embryo update

I couldn't wait another week to check again so I went through all of them tonight. Almost all of the 30 eggs I set over the weekend have veins!

It is such a big difference compared to shipped eggs. Out of 5 roosters, only one is not getting it done (he tries hard, but he's better at strutting around and showing off at the moment lol), so I'm very pleased. My favorite, Zephyr, is one of those boys working hard

Can't wait to see my babies!! LOL Oh, and I'm 99% sure my 2 week old serama chick is a roo!

LOL well then I hope I can get you some ladies to go with him

If they all hatch (or even half), I will have enough for everyone who has placed an order for some AND I will be setting more the weekend after these hatch. Since I know my roos (except the one) are fertile, I should eggs for those who wanted to give Serama hatching a try. I'm getting at least 3-5 eggs a day from my ladies which is pretty good for this time of year. They usually lay more in the fall and winter. I'm not going to start selling them till the swap so this is your chance for free eggs from the Castle Delights line of Seramas

I know Seramas don't breed true to color but I'm so excited to see what Louis and Marie's babies will look like. He is a silver tri-colored and she is a silver and black penciled. I know it's silly, but I'm just so excited. These are my first "planned" breeding chicks, not just "oops Mutt chicks" lol. It's kinda cool.

While we're on the subject of chicks....

Is there any interest here for bantam wheaten Cubalayas?? I have an order of 10 chicks coming this week, and I'm going to grow them up a bit and hopefully be able to pair them up. Only keeping a pair, or maybe a trio for myself...

Also, I have 5 bantam buff Orps coming with them, I only need a cockerel, so anything else I end up will be available...

They are both wonderful breeds! You'll have to tell me if what they say about the cubalayas is true, that they are super sweet.
