Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

Hi All
frow.gif

I know that some of us have mailed or shipped eggs, but has anyone shipped live birds?

I was just thinking, (I know, I know! "Thinking" has always gotten myself in trouble

) but that kind of knowledge could come in handy in the future.

So would someone be willing to give the load-down on shipping?

Just some basic hows and whats involved.

I'm probably not the only one that would appreciate it!
Thanks,

I'm pretty sure you have to have NPIP listing to ship live birds. I've found you really need that for hatching eggs too but most people don't have it and still send eggs without a problem. I would be one of those rule breakers lol. Oh and I owe you a PM still about my Serama eggs....I will have some in the next couple weeks, I can ship them to you or we can try and hook up on one of my trips to the Portland area (1st one June 23 and 24th - and I'm sure another one after the 4th sometime). I will be in Wilsonville/Canby area.

Yes, I was figuring I would have that NPIP done sometime in the future. Just because I've been getting birds and eggs from all over. Thought it would be better to be safe then sorry, later down the road. I don't know what all is envolved, but I was told it doesn't cost anything. Shipped or meeting up, doesn't matter to me. I'm usually available either way. I'm hoping with the new incubator, my luck will be better!!

Is your day going better today? Believe it or not, my is just getting started!! Been lazy. I was up late last night, hubby works nights, playing with chickens. So I thought I would sleep in. Watched I really stupid horror movie last night.

Called "ThanksKilling!" About a demonic Turkey from the very 1st Thanksgiving. It returns every 550 years to kill the white people!! Your typical B horror movie! The turkey was so funny looking, and such a potty mouth!, Yes it talked. Liked boobs and having sex with the girls before he chopped them up with an ax!

Well, I guess I better get to work, Roosters are yelling at me!

Sounds like a favorite movie the hubby and I watch now and then from our teenage years - Killer Klowns from Outerspace. Well I should some eggs on the 23rd if you want or we can wait till the next trip after the 4th. On the 23rd and 24th I will be at the Wilsonville High School (no idea where that is lol). My day is going slow and calm but after the last month or so, I'm not complaining. Probably going to lose my EE prolapsed girl

Hey Cloverleaf,
Did your son have a name that he called the hen I bought from you? I'm having a hard time coming up with a name. Something that is 'her'. I was wondering if your son had a name or would like to help me come up with a name? (I remembered the pic of him and her. It is so cute!)
Thanks,

So sorry about your girl

Sounds like she had it real bad!

What times on the 23rd and 24th? I can figure out where the school is. (I think.) Wilsonville isn't that far. You can pm me on the details. Glad your day is better.
I finally got the chicken room cleaned. And everyone's happy, for now. Frankie has finally took in the new hen. They were out of their cages earlier and I made a noise that scared them, both hens ran behind Frankie. He has been strut'n his stuff ever since!
wink.png
I moved them (all three) into a larger cage and all is good so far. The new hen (duh, I've got to come up with a name) is just a tad bit bigger than Jonnie, about as big as Frankie. But more shy. I think they make a good trio!. Now I need 2 tiny hens for the new roo. He is so little. I have him in the nursery with the 4 d'uccle chicks. He is the same size! Hef is temp. with the orpington girls. They all got a long well, so I bet him there. That way he wouldn't be lonely. I hate keeping someone by themselves for too long. (I'm running out of back up cages! for when there could be fighting!)
So let me know about the 23rd and 24th, and we'll start making plans.
Thanks,

Ps. Loved Killer Klowns!

My girl, Bijou, just died

Yes, it was pretty bad. I really do not think hens recover from prolapse. This is my 6th hen to die of it in a year. I need to do some research to see if it is something I'm doing or what...

I am not sure yet about the times but I will try and figure it out this week when I complete the registration for the tournament and then I'll let you know! Alexis mentioned something to me about needing to get to Canby so I'm wondering if Cloverleaf has something she needs...maybe we could all meet up somehow, someway.

So do you still need another trio too? I have you down for two girls....

So sorry Laura! today is kind of yuck! Stupid rain! Blame it on the rain. You know this might sound silly but I'm reading a bunch of threads by a BYCer called Revolution. Geebs recommended it and the stuff he writes about poultry diet is pretty interesting. I wonder if he has anything about food related prolapse. I'll have a look and see if I can find anything. We should all get together and have a crazy chicken lady lunch!
