So sorry Laura! today is kind of yuck! Stupid rain! Blame it on the rain. You know this might sound silly but I'm reading a bunch of threads by a BYCer called Revolution. Geebs recommended it and the stuff he writes about poultry diet is pretty interesting. I wonder if he has anything about food related prolapse. I'll have a look and see if I can find anything. We should all get together and have a crazy chicken lady lunch!

Thank you

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder what the heck is going on. The ones that have died have been good layers, no health issues, not even really heavy molters. They are active one day and then boom. I've had internal layers, egg peritonitis and prolapse.

And yes on the lunch!

Thx Daze! Got any pics of the snow leopard turkey poults? I am so pleased you are happy with them, I (of course) adore them, so you can't get an unbiased opinion from me.

I am sorry to hear about the dying birds! Maybe you can find a little joy in an image of baby lambs?

Thanks for the happy lamb thoughts!

What a blast to have a pasture full of crazy lambs! I call it "the lamb races", they dash about, all of them together, as fast as they can, for fun. If there is an obsacle in the way, even better! They love to hop to the top of the compost pile, the perk holes and hills, a stack of straw bales, or anything that presents a challenge. They run across the pasture and back again for what seems like forever, for no good reason. Sometimes they run till they pant and hang their tongues out of their mouths! But they only rest long enough to run some more, if that is what everyone else is doing. It's just the lambs (and me) that get a kick out of this, the ewes ignore it and sooner or later everyone is napping.

Those little ones are only 1 day old and they are possed up with the pack of lambs and they climb the drainage ditch hills and into the ditch. They are keeping up with their 1 week old sibling and the mommas have to sort them out for feedings. 1 ewe gets to be the babysitter for the lamb posse.

Thanks for being interested in my sheep! If you are considering sheep or goats, this breed is excellent! Katahdin Hair sheep, they shed! No shearing! I really can't say enough about the breed, and I do not even like sheep! I wanted goats, but I would not trade them for anything.

I will have too many very soon!

The good news is... Caribou, the ewe, is in labor! YAAAAA!

The bad news is that it looks like she will deliver when I am asleep.

Also... a missing turkey hen appeared today with 13 babies!

Always love babies, no matter what type

Glad everything is going well for you and that the momma turkey returned. How cute!

Just a follow up on my hen issues...a friend on FB made me realize that all the hens except the very first one was an standard EE. The first hen was a frizzle cochin last summer. I can't even say that all the EE's were from hatchery stock because 2 of them I got from Oregonjen last fall. It's the strangest thing....why just that one breed?

I think I will stick with just 2 hens, for now, (especially with getting some eggs). That will give me 2 roos and 4 females. (which reminds me, I still need to name that little roo, also.) Who knows what I will end up with at the swap??!!! I'm trying to get my hubby to work on our camper. If it is available, I would like to be able to take it to the swap. I can buy all kind of babies!! "bahhahahah!", hubby says wickedly. I'm going to have to take a look and update that list again. So for now, let's plan on 2, tiny hens, if possible.
Thanks,

No worries

Not sure when the 2 hens will come up, but definitely by the swap. I will be selling all of the chicks I hatch between now and then - straight run unless a couple just jump out at me and scream girl. I do not want to brood chicks all summer and with my new girls coming from Juliette, I want to keep the hatching going so I can see what I get!

I'm so thrilled and excited to see them and Juliette is the nicest person to work with! She is very helpful on their genes and ideas for future breeding. It's been a very pleasurable experience and I hope to be able to buy more from her eventually...lol once I pay these off

OMG! I'm so flipping mad right now

So I heard back from the woman with my chickens. She said she understands that I don't want to give her 20 so she'll take 17 or another hen. She won't bring my hens back. They're laying so she wants to keep them. I have no idea where she lives. In SO freaking mad my ears are red!
