Thx Daze! Got any pics of the snow leopard turkey poults? I am so pleased you are happy with them, I (of course) adore them, so you can't get an unbiased opinion from me.
I am sorry to hear about the dying birds! Maybe you can find a little joy in an image of baby lambs?
Thanks for the happy lamb thoughts!
What a blast to have a pasture full of crazy lambs! I call it "the lamb races", they dash about, all of them together, as fast as they can, for fun. If there is an obsacle in the way, even better! They love to hop to the top of the compost pile, the perk holes and hills, a stack of straw bales, or anything that presents a challenge. They run across the pasture and back again for what seems like forever, for no good reason. Sometimes they run till they pant and hang their tongues out of their mouths! But they only rest long enough to run some more, if that is what everyone else is doing. It's just the lambs (and me) that get a kick out of this, the ewes ignore it and sooner or later everyone is napping.
Those little ones are only 1 day old and they are possed up with the pack of lambs and they climb the drainage ditch hills and into the ditch. They are keeping up with their 1 week old sibling and the mommas have to sort them out for feedings. 1 ewe gets to be the babysitter for the lamb posse.
Thanks for being interested in my sheep! If you are considering sheep or goats, this breed is excellent! Katahdin Hair sheep, they shed! No shearing! I really can't say enough about the breed, and I do not even like sheep! I wanted goats, but I would not trade them for anything.
I will have too many very soon!
The good news is... Caribou, the ewe, is in labor! YAAAAA!
The bad news is that it looks like she will deliver when I am asleep.
Also... a missing turkey hen appeared today with 13 babies!
