Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

I have a TON of polish right now. I hatched several batches this year. The oldest will be just under 5 months by the swap and the youngest around 12 weeks at the swap. I will mostly be looking to rehome roos, but I am sure I can manage a couple of pullets for you. I should be fairly clear on their genders by then. I have a few differnt colors at the moment....gold laced, buff laced, crele project, and an assortment of crosses. I can get some pictures of them if you like. Not totally sure which are the pullets at the moment, but should be by October. I can say that they are all very sweet. I handle them every day and they are very socialable silly little things.

Yeah!! I would love 2 pullets! Not sure on a roo. Hef has kind of claimed the area and I don't know what he would do if I tried to introduce competition!

Are we sharing "going to bed" stories?

I've got a struggle going on about who gets the "best" night run.

OK, I don't know what makes it the best, other than it is slightly larger and contains a dog crate that nobody ever goes into.

The geese want it. I have to chase them out so I can put the ducks away. The older ducks grew up in it and they want it. The baby ducks absolutely want it. So it is a race to see who gets it at night.

The baby ducks finally figured out that they can get it by putting themselves to bed early. They are already inside when I go out to lock everyone up. That is, if the geese aren't in it and keeping everyone else out.

Then the older ducks get all huffy and I have to herd them back and forth past the entrance of the "not best" night run several times before they will go it. All the while they are scolding me and protesting.

I've explained to them that if they would come up and put themselves to bed instead of making me herd them up every night, they could have it. But first in line gets it and the baby ducks are the type who could get the best concert tickets because they will stand in line early.

Small for a rooster. He is a d'uccle, they are bantams. He is about the size of my delawares and americaunas (they're still young). But it is his attitude that I worry about. He has just 'took' over. If I leave the door open to let them out, he runs around herding them back. If I pick one of the chickens up (maybe just to love one them) he hollers and screams till I put them down. He 'tells' them when to go to bed and they cuddle up all around him. I finally took the divider out of the next box, now it is just one big nest instead of two. They were all in the one anyway. At least now they look more comfortable.

I still think that the black silkie is a roo (none has crowed or layed an egg, so who really knows?), but he is bigger and sort of leads the others. Hef really doesn't bother them, but they have been together for awhile now. The silkies kind of stick together, separated from the rest most of the time. But it is the black one that sleeps with Hef and the other girls. (What's up with that?) The other two try to 'nest' under the nest box. I have to (almost dig) them out every night to put them inside the coop. Silkies!? I'm hoping to get them 'trained before winter. So until I get another run/coop, Hef will have to remain the 'boss' of this one. (and he does try to 'get' with all the girls!) I've named this coop The Playboy Mansion! The female d'uccles are Holly, Bridget, and Kendra! (Girls Next Door) and the poor little black d'uccle is the oddball, her name is Jetta. (I just liked the name)

The silkies are the Three Stooges - Moe (black one) Larry (the buff) Moe (I think she is a partridge)

The Delawares names are Spot and Speckles (if I can ever get pics you'll understand)

The Americaunas names are Betsy and Liberty.

OK, I'm not great with names!

can you tell by the down what color they will be?

Not exatly BUT
fl.gif
I vent sexed them and compared the wings and
fl.gif
they ALL look to be girls!!!!!!
wee.gif
that would be FANTASTIC! obviously I'm no vent expert but hopefully the combo and yes I know feather sexing is pretty much only reliable when you have a slow feathering boy over a fast feathering female... I think

. Anyway here's to hoping!

The father is BCMXBlack Ameraucana and the momma is a Wheaten Marans. So I'm guessing the little black ones could potentially pick up more of the Marans genes lay more dark terra cotta eggs but I'm really hoping that because the dad has a pea comb that the blue gene will carry over. We'll only really know in 20+ weeks!

They are all LF Polish. I will check over on the Oregon thread. Or you can let them know to PM me. The extras I have are young at the moment, but some are already obvious roos. All very silly and adorable though!
