Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

Just got back from the fairgrounds and I'm happy to report that they have waived the $250 deposit and the insurance for our event!!!

I guess they trust me or something

We will have our event on the marquee for a week and the ladies in the office will be attending since one of them has chickens and the other is completely fascinated with the event in general. We are officially set!

The one thing they asked about was a website for the event because they will link it free of charge so people looking at the event calendar can learn more about the events. I gave them backyardchickens but I was thinking maybe we should create one specifically for our swaps. What does everyone think? Does anyone have experience with creating a website and know of a free one we can use? Let's get some ideas going....

I think a website for swaps is a great idea. There's certainly enough interest in these swaps - and for all of Oregon/WA it might be pretty handy to go directly to a site instead of digging through threads on here to find dates/times/locations/pictures/who to contact about what/etc...

I'd be happy to help with that unless someone else is just dying to.

And now I'm reading the forum rules about "other websites"... I don't want to inadvertently do a no-no with what we have in mind. It certainly wouldn't have it's own "forum", but just informational I take it? And I'd advertise BYC all over the place on it of course!

I actually had someone contact me via email asking if there was a website for the swap before this last one.

I made my website through webs.com, it's totally free. I have made 2 websites, my own personal site, and one for my work: www.evcot.com

The sitebuilder tools with webs is really easy to use. I'd be happy to do it, since I've used it before, just let me know. If someone else wants to do it and knows of a free hosting site they like, that's fine too.

I don't think it's against BYC rules (maybe Silkiechicken can help answer that?) since it's not a competing site, just an informational one like you said. BYC would totally be all over it! I think it would be very helpful for me and everyone else who gets asked about the swap. Instead of typing out a reply, we can just send them to the website. On it we can list all the breeds and types of birds and other items coming plus the raffle information etc.

Whoever wants to do it - go for it! I have no experience whatsoever in this area so I bow to the experts lol

Oh and Alexis, just to let you know...that little blue barred bantam is still at Del's (I took them another cheesecake for bribery) along with a Sultan chick! It was hard passing them up....so so cute lol
