Ok, I'm going to throw this out there and see if it sticks.....
I am wondering if anyone is willing to take on a large fowl buff Faverolles project?? I crossed a LF buff Orpington rooster over my bantam buff Faverolles hens. I have been told by some old time breeders that when you cross bantams and large fowl you'll end up with some larger than the LF parent, and some smaller than the bantam parent. SO...there is a possibility of creating a bantam and a large fowl line out of this. I can tell you that there is a HUGE size difference in the chicks that I have hatched out so far. I SO WISH I could do this myself, but I just don't have room (and DH doesn't have patience) for another LF coop.
About buff Favs...there are a very few of us in the USA with bantam buffs. The LF buffs in the US are GONE. Which is why I really don't want to let this opportunity pass by. Basically what is needed is this: I need someone to take these large buff chicks, grow them out, and keep one or two roos to maturity, we would then cross whichever has the best Fav type back over my buff girls, to hopefully lock in the Fav type, and continue from there (so I also NEED whoever might be considering this to have a disease-history free flock, and be super-conscientious about quarantine, etc).
All of these babies have lightly feathered shanks, most of them have puffy cheeks but we'll have to see who ends up with the best beards/muffs, but none of them have 5 toes, which is also why there will need to be at least one more cross back to the pure buff Favs.
Anyone interested??? Oh, the chicks are only 1-2 weeks old right now, I think there are about 4 that are bigger, and I have more in incubators and under broodies.....
Thanks!!! Feel free to ask questions here, or PM me.....
